A new Sportsmanship Rating System for the Youth Team Sports of baseball, basketball, and volleyball has been launched by the city of Vacaville. This new program is designed to bring about a culture of positive behavior, fair play, and respect among spectators, coaches, and participants.
The new system expects that all those who are involved in youth sports in the city will demonstrate good sportsmanship. A zero-tolerance policy has been implemented by the city towards conduct which is unsportsmanlike, and staff and officials can take action against those who violate these policies.
The Sportsmanship Rating System has three main components. There will be a comprehensive evaluation of each game giving the team a rating of 1 to 5 for their behavior before, during, and after the game. To qualify for playoffs, teams need to maintain an average rating of 4 or 5 throughout the season. The conduct of players and spectators is to be ensured by the coaches who will be held responsible for violations in conduct.
