A total amount of $217,350 has been awarded to the city of Vacaville from the Solano Transportation Authority and the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District for pedestrian-friendly improvements on Brown Street near Markham Elementary School.
The improvements will include installing a sidewalk south of the school on Brown Street’s east side, which will create an uninterrupted sidewalk from Browns Valley Road to East Monte Vista Avenue. There will also be the installation of two radar feedback systems offering feedback in real time on the speeds of passing drivers. This will enable the city to adjust speeds as needed. The funds will be used to cover the costs of the design and environmental and construction work.

Aaron Busch, city manager, expressed his pleasure that funding has been awarded to the initial phase of the Markham Elementary School Pedestrian Improvement Project. He said that these partnerships with Vacaville Unified School District, the Solano Transportation Authority, and the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District are important for ensuring these projects are carried out. He added that such funding is one of the strategic goals of the City Council to maintain effective and efficient services.
This project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024.
