A new world class biomanufacturing cluster will be coming to Vacaville.
To be called the California Biomanufacturing Center, the cluster will span 300 acres next to an existing such facility. The Center, in the words of the mayor of Vacaville, Ron Rowlett, demonstrates the deep and ongoing commitment of the city to the industry and will enable the industry to grow in the city.
It is expected that the Center will lead to the creation of 10,000 jobs, many of which will require business card printing services; a payroll of over $1bn year; 3.5 million square feet of commercial real estate; and $2 billion in industrial development. The mayor added that the Center will build on the proven success of the city in the industry and will enable Vacaville to continue to be a leader and a focus in biomanufacturing for the future.
A non-profit will be created that will work with those in academia and industry to ensure that the community and industry will be able to grow and develop together. The nonprofit will be working with Solano Community College and the biomanufacturing industry to address the training needs in the workforce of the local biomanufacturing industry and other development opportunities in the workforce. A Bachelor of Science degree in biomanufacturing has been offered by Solano Community College since August 2017.
