The reason for this odd ensemble of groceries was that they were vying to set a Guinness World Record for “largest group of people dressed as fruits/vegetables.”
The world record stands at 889, but the congregation of fruit-dressed people at Huntington Beach fell short with only 817 attendees.
The event was put together by an organization called The Next Fun Thing. The participants were unable to break the world record, however the gathering was able to benefit Miracle for Kids, which is a charity organization based in Tustin that offers financial and emotional support for poor families and children suffering from critical illnesses. The organization was still able to raise funds thanks to fun exercises on the day, entertainment, and raffles where the prizes were likely to be Corporate Gifts and Promotional Products such as promotional Pens.
Andrea Ramirez, the event’s producer and The Next Fun Thing’s Founder, stated that:
“Beyond beating a world record, we wanted to provide awareness for an incredible organization. We wanted to provide a day where these families can enjoy an incredibly ridiculous experience and raise money for a noble cause.”
The holders for this particular World Record are in Japan, where it was set in 2017. According to the rules set out by Guinness World Records, the costumes must be fashioned into the shapes of fruits or vegetables and be recognized as such from in front and behind.
