The waters of Santa Rosa’s Laguna de Santa Rosa attract many creatures, with dragonflies being on the list. An event will see the public explore the habitat and life cycle of these insects and learn more about them and the role they play in their ecosystem.
The organizers of the ‘Dragons in our Watershed’ day will get up close and personal with many of the more than a dozen species of dragonflies that call the area home. The public will have an opportunity to learn how to catch them, identify the species and then release them so they can once again set to work at helping to keep the numbers of pests such as mosquitoes low.
The group will meet and get organized at the Laguna Environmental Center before heading out, and it will visit streams, lakes, and wetlands in the hunt for dragonflies. The recommended age to participate in the day is 12 and up, and a variety of ticket options are available. Field guides and other materials for a special nature-based event like this can be produced by area Print shops.
This opportunity to meet some tiny dragons will be offered to the public on July 8. It has been scheduled to begin at 9:30 am, and it will run until 4:30 pm.
