Residents in the Santa Rosa area are getting ready to compete to support Diabetes research. The 2016 Bocce for a Cure is a pair tournament made to cater to both experienced and novice players alike.
Bocce is an Italian game based on teams of two taking turns bowling to hit a smaller ball - called a boccino. Points are awarded per frame to the team who gets closest to the boccino. Participants in the event will get a minimum of four matches to play rounds in four divisions of six teams.
After that the top eight to twelve teams will compete in a single elimination tournament. Winners will receive awards and other prizes. Interested participants who don’t have a partner can sign up anyway and a partner will be found for them. Competitors will also get lunch and a free number of drink tickets. Those who lack the penchant for bocce can also pay to watch the games instead. As part of the marketing services for the event, early registration also includes a bottle of Korbel champagne.
The 2016 Bocce for a Cure will take place on July 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Julliard Park Bocce Courts, located at 329 Santa Rosa Ave. Cost is $30 per person to compete or $20 for spectators. Anyone interested in more information or pre-purchasing tickets should visit the website.
