The streets of Santa Rosa will become a sea of green when the local recreation and parks hosts its annual St. Patrick's Day 5K run.
The run is organized by local running shoe retailer Fleet Feet Santa Rosa, and proceeds will go to the Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Scholarship fund. The fund is used to send underprivileged local children to camp and to swimming lessons.
Runners are encouraged to wear green or St. Patrick's Day-themes attire for the chip-timed run, which is open to people of all ages and abilities. There will be a prize for the best costume and all participants will get a free commemorative mug and finisher medal. There is a post-race party where there will be live music and giveaways.
Partnering with the run this year is the Santa Rosa Water Department which is using the event to launch its Fix a Leak Week. It will also have a mobile Hydration Station at the finish line and will be teaching runner and visitors about ways to save water and available rebates. Brochure printing is an important element to public education programs such as this one.
Registration is $35 for adults and $20 for youth 15 and under.
The Santa Rosa St. Patrick's Day 5K takes place on Sunday, March 15 at Old Courthouse Square in Santa Rosa. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the race itself begins at 11 a.m.
