Santa Rosa parks open for some outdoor activities

Just in time for spring weather, some amenities at Santa Rosa's 75 parks are now open.

The Santa Rosa Public Health Officer amended the Parks Closure Order on May 13. Previously parks had been closed for at least two months in an effort to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

Today, basketball courts, tennis and pickleball courts, and bocce ball courts are open. Non-motorized boating is also allowed at some of the parks with water access.

There are stipulations, of course. Santa Rosa residents may only visit a city park with other members of their households, and must go to a park that is close to their homes.

Park visitors must keep a safe distance of six feet from other visitors, and must also carry a mask with them at all times. Visitors must use their masks if they cannot maintain safe social distancing.

Playgrounds, dog parks, sports fields, barbecue areas, volleyball courts and skate parks remain closed.

The City of Santa Rosa asks residents to either bike or walk to their closest park. Parking lots will be open, although these become high-risk areas if they get too crowded.

Santa Rosa parks are open from sunrise until sunset. Portable restrooms will also be available to visitors at the parks with open amenities.

Local Print shops can help out in situations such as these to create and print warning and informational signage to post in public areas. Visit the Santa Rosa website for more information.
