Santa Rosa ice cream maker wins award

The owner of an independent Santa Rosa ice cream shop has been recognized by The North Bay Business Journal.

Salvador Cruz is the founder and owner of Fru-ta All Natural Ice Cream. The North Bay Business Journal has recently named Cruz the winner of its 2020 Latino Business Leadership Award.

Cruz loved ice cream as a child, but being an ice cream maker was far from his mind when he immigrated to California from Mexico. Before Fru-ta, Cruz spent 20 years building cabinets. However, when the recession hit in 2008-2009, Cruz was forced to find something new, and decided to pursue something that he thought was enjoyable and made children happy.

Fru-ta now employs more than 40 people and has become a Santa Rosa success story.

In an interview with The Journal, Cruz says he is most proud of the fact that he has built his business as an immigrant with just a high school education. He says he is happy that he now has the means to send his own children to college.

Award-winning business owners will often include the recognition in brochure printing and Business Cards.

Fru-ta All Natural Ice Cream has three locations in Santa Rosa, 2770 Stony Point Road in the Bellevue Shopping Center, 52 Mission Circle in the McDonald’s Mission Plaza, and 3080 Marlow Road in Rosewood Village. There is also a location in Petaluma. All the stores are open daily from noon to 9:00 pm.
