The people of Santa Rosa are getting ready for the 122nd Annual Luther Burbank Rose Parade and Festival.
The daylong event combines family fun, a parade, and a cycling competition for one action-packed experience.
The theme for this year is ‘Re-Cycling into the Future,’ as the parade coincides with the Amgen Tour of California cycling competition. As such, all of the entries in the parade will be bicycle-themed. How the various groups participating in the parade will interpret this instruction is up to them; the only rule is that it must include at least one rose on the float.
Over $4,000 in prizes will be awarded to winners in the various categories at the parade, which include best use of local history, best equestrian entry, best use of recycled material, and best overall entry.
The festival will take place near the cycling location and will feature lots of activities for visitors young and old. The fest will feature carnival style games and activities, as well as face painting. Additionally, live music will be performed by several different groups during the event. Food vendors will also provide several different types of cuisine. Spots are still available for businesses who want to set up a booth at the event; they only need to download business Forms from the website.
The 122nd Annual Luther Burbank Rose Parade and Festival will take place on May 21 from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm at the Courthouse Square, located along 4th St. The parade starts at 12:15 pm. Both events are free to the public. Anyone interested in more information should visit the website.
