A recent event in Santa Rosa gave those in need a chance to have their hair cut and styled, and also enjoy a hot meal and a chance to pick out some new clothes.
Special Thanksgiving session of ‘Haircuts for the Homeless’ took place on an afternoon late in November. Along with a new hairstyle, those who took part got to have a Thanksgiving lunch and even choose a new outfit for themselves.
The organizers used social media to help get the word out about the event, and a flyer printing company can create items that can be distributed throughout the area inviting people to come. People of all ages showed up to have their hair cut, enjoy a meal, choose a new outfit, or lend a helping hand.
Danika O’Leary has been holding Haircuts for the Homeless sessions on a monthly basis, but for this one, she partnered with Shawn Sepulveda, who owns A Perfect Experience Auto Detailing to make it even better than usual. They worked together to collect donations of gently used clothing and shoes, and people from throughout the community also joined in their efforts. Volunteers cooked food, served it to those who came out, contributed food items that could be prepared, or dropped off supplies like cutlery, plates and serving dishes, napkins, or other items.
