Santa Rosa celebrates pure food

Santa Rosa residents are getting ready for the 6th Annual National Heirloom Exposition. The event features the world’s largest heirloom produce and will have displays, competitions, and educational opportunities.

The expo will feature more than 100 food, farm, and garden experts who are both nationally and internationally recognized. Presentations include a talk on growing food in the middle of a drought, raising chickens, organic foods, seed collection, and polyculture farming. Visitors will have the opportunity to shop from dozens of heritage seed vendors as well as local artists and growers. Many different kinds of art will be displayed, including sculptures made from gourds.

Plenty of entertainment will also be available at the event. A folk music festival will feature old time music and bluegrass, as well as classic cowboy music. A sanctioned fiddle competition will also be held as well as a Dahlia competition with cash prizes and ribbons. Other growing competitions will take place, including an heirloom pumpkin competition. The Brochures also promise a range of events for children, including food tastings, games, and educational activities about GMOs and organic gardening.

The National Heirloom Expo will be held on September 6, 7, and 8 starting at 10:00 am every day. Tickets cost $15 per day or $30 for a three-day pass, and children are free. Anyone interested in more info should visit the website.
