Santa Rosa area class to explore culinary benefits of mushrooms

Mushrooms are a food crop that can be harvested throughout California, and a Santa Rosa area brunch will put these humble fungi in the spotlight.

Those who enjoy mushrooms for their culinary value may want to be sure they are on the guestlist for a local cookery class that will also incorporate foraging hints and other tips. It will be focused on local species. A full brunch, along with beverages, is included in the ticket price.

Attendees will be preparing an assortment of brunch dishes, including French toast, herbed mushroom hash, and a special hollandaise sauce. While they work, guests will have the chance to learn more about fungi and the role they play in the ecosystem, and everyone will go home with a list of resources that may be helpful for following up on their learning.

A cookery or other food-based class can give those who take part an opportunity to learn some new skills, and they can then take these back to their own home kitchen. Recipe cards and other materials to hand out during a class will be on offer at area Stationery printers.

This introduction to how mushrooms can boost an assortment of brunch dishes will take place this Sunday, January 21. It will begin at 11:00 am at Win and Rye in Penngrove.
