While much of the human world has slowed to a crawl, Mother Nature has continued working around the clock and her creations are now on display at one of California’s most famous gardens.
Santa Rosa’s Luther Burbank Home and Gardens is open once again to the public, according to its website. Still closed are the guided tours, the museum and the gift shop; however, the public can still visit the gardens and learn about the horticulturalist after whom the garden is named.
Luther Burbank (1849-1926) spent more than 50 years in the Santa Rosa area experimenting with plant breeding. More than 800 varieties of plants, flowers, fruits, nuts, vegetables, and grains were introduced by Burbank.
Today, visitors can participate in a no-contact scavenger hunt. There are 30 images of Burbank wearing a mask scattered throughout the property. Visitors can win a packet of sunflower seeds if they find 20 of the images and document their locations on a special form available on the garden’s website. Print shops offer printing and lamination services can be used to help create no-contact scavenger hunts.
Luther Burbank Home and Gardens is open Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays from 8am until dusk. The gardens will remain closed Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays to give staff opportunity to manicure and weed the property. The garden is located at 204 Santa Rosa Avenue.
