Day of basket-making planned for Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa weavers who are interested in adding to their skillset while they enjoy a relaxing and quiet afternoon may wish to save the date for an event that will be held on the Laguna Environmental Center grounds.

Charlie Kennard, who is a master weaver, will lead the participants through the techniques used to craft an open weave twined basket from native coyote willow. Depending on their level of experience, crafters can choose between a recurved or flat-bottom style.

The organizers noted that, while the workshop is open to both teens and adults, it is best suited to those who already have some weaving experience. They went on to say that it requires manual dexterity, and it may not be suitable for those who have limited use of their hands.

The registration fee covers the cost of materials, as well as snacks and hot drinks. Those who plan on participating are asked to bring along a small pair of clippers, a small towel, a water bowl, and a lunch. The ticket price is $95 per person. Flyers that promote a class like this can be sourced from a local printer.

Saturday, February 3 has been chosen as the date for this activity, and it will begin at 9:30 am. The Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation’s website includes further details for anyone who wants to find out more.
