Youth performers to host show featuring classic characters

A troupe of young thespians will get to put their spin on a show littered with beloved characters in early November. Santa Clara residents will surely find the display to be a blast of nostalgia.

Junie B. Jones Jr. is a musical based on popular Barbara Park Books and adds the exciting element of song. The story for the show sees Junie making the transition to first grade, while dealing with her best friend moving on, her potential need for glasses, a new classmate/friend, an important game tournament, and other ups and downs of a new school year. The musical was put together by Marcy Heisler (book/lyrics), and Zina Goldrich (music).

Aimed at young readers, the series of novels follows Junie B. through starting elementary school with kindergarten, then the even bigger change to first grade and the drama that comes with it. Authored by Park, the Books are illustrated by Denise Brunkus.

CMT Rising Stars is highlighting some of its performers aged seven to ten with a pair of casts known as “Glitter” and “Glue.” A full schedule of shows and information about which cast is performing is up on CMT San Jose’s page, along with tickets priced at each $20 prior to the “per ticket” service fee, which is $4.50 to $5.50. Flyer printing will frequently pop up in the promotion period for community and youth theaters.

The performances will be put on between November 1 and 5, with multiple shows on the weekend dates of November 4 and 5.
