Youth in Santa Clara prepare for triathlon

Local kids are gearing up for the Santa Clara triathlon.

The event is designed for children between the ages of 4 and 14. Participants will be divided into five age groups. Children aged six and under will take part in a 25-yard swim, a one-mile bike ride, and a half-mile run. The courses will get increasingly harder for older age groups.

The biking and running courses are set up in a loop fashion, and the swimming portion will be held in lanes at a nearby pool. Banner printing has no doubt been utilized to create large Signs to designate the start and end points of the courses.

After the event, participants can enjoy snacks and an expo at the grassy area near the finish line. Awards will be given to the top five males and females in every age group.

To participate in the triathlon, children must become a USA Triathlon annual youth member for $15, or purchase a one-day membership for $10.

It all takes place on August 16. A week prior to the triathlon, participants will be able to find out their wave start times via email and social media.

The event will be held at Central Park, located on 2625 Patricia Drive. The swimming portion of the race will take place at the Santa Clara International Swim Center, located on 909 Kiely Boulevard.
