Santa Clara wishes people happy holidays

Despite being a 31-day month, August has the unfortunate distinction of having absolutely no holidays. The Santa Clara Library is coming to the rescue of work-weary folk with its Holiday Mashup Day.

The event promises fun events and a plethora of holiday magic from the entire year’s worth of holidays.

The basic premise of the day is why celebrate one holiday when it’s possible to celebrate them all. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes, ugly sweaters (green, or red, white, and blue), bring flowers, chocolates, presents, or confetti, and munch on candy, cookies, or cake. Anything goes in this mishmash of every tradition all at once.

In addition to the festivities, the library will also provide some activities and entertainment to help ring in the holiday cheer. Two short films will be shown: the first one on the Bats of Northern California and the other a dance video teaching viewers about Bollywood-style dance fitness routines. A special holiday version of the Puppet Arts Theatre’s take on Jack and the Beanstalk will also be performed, and there will be a free Valentine’s Day craft.

Holiday Mashup Day will be held on August 27 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Santa Clara Library, located at 695 Moreland Way. Free to attend, anyone interested should contact the library directly for more information.
