The fires are being stoked and meat is being smoked, as participants in Santa Clara get ready for the Fifth Annual Silicon Valley BBQ Championship. The professional level competition provides food and fun for people of all ages.
The championship is endorsed by the Kansas City Barbecue Association and is the second largest such competition on the West Coast. As such, a large number of professional teams will be competing for over $20,000 in cash prizes. The teams include Flame Thrower BBQ, Smokey Luv BBQ, Lord of the Ribs BBQ, and Blazin by the Bay BBQ. Teams will compete across four different categories: pork ribs, pulled pork, chicken thighs, and brisket. Additionally, amateur smokers can compete for bragging rights in the Backyard BBQ competition.
On top of getting to sample the wares being judged, visitors will also have a lot of entertainment available at the event. Live music will be played throughout the event, including bands Long Train Runnin’ and the Houserockers. A kids’ zone will also be set up with lots of different activities for children to partake in. Business owners can also choose to pay a little extra to participate in the BBQ Bistro, a VIP level of treatment that includes promoting a company’s Logo Design, and free samples and drinks for company guests.
The Fifth Annual Silicon Valley BBQ Championship will take place on June 24 from 4:00 to 10:00 pm and June 25 from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm at Central Park, located at 909 Kiely Blvd. Admission is free, though there is a $10 fee for parking.
