Santa Clara plans outdoor volunteer event

Santa Clara is planning to have volunteers participate in a clean-up of a trail at Guadalupe River Park in San Jose, California.

This is planned to take place starting in early May, with multiple dates available. Organizers ask people wishing to participate to reserve a date ahead of time and not show up on dates they do not reserve, thereby helping the event follow Covid-19 protocols.

The organizers will provide all necessary equipment, but they ask that volunteers bring their own water bottle. Some of the materials provided will be gloves and Bags printed with a graphic design related to the purpose. Safety will be discussed at 9:00 am, so people need to arrive no later than 8:45 am to check in. If a school group or corporate team wishes to schedule an event to volunteer, they must reach out to the volunteer coordinator.

Persons younger than 10 years old are not allowed to participate, and adults are required to be with any volunteers aged 10 to 15. Parking is available at Rotary PlayGarden. Volunteers will meet between the PlayGarden and visitor center. If the air quality is deemed “unhealthy for sensitive groups” or rain comes, the event will be moved to another date.

Volunteers are also asked to wear face masks and follow social distancing rules. The first event is currently scheduled for May 5.
