Santa Clara families run for fun

Families in the Santa Clara area are getting ready for Run Santa Clara: A Family 5K. The athletic activity is a noncompetitive event meant to encourage fitness and togetherness in the community.

Flyers bill the event as a nontimed 5K. A distance of approximately 3.7 miles has been planned out, which consists of four and a half circuits through Central Park’s sidewalks and paved paths. Participants can choose to walk or run the distance. Since there is no competition, people of all ages and ability levels are encouraged to attend. After the run is over, participants can choose to hang out and enjoy the park by playing sports or having a barbecue.

The all-inclusive 5K is part of the Santa Clara Youth Commission's attempt to encourage physical activity among youth and all members of the community. All proceeds generated from the event will go to benefit the Youth Commission’s Scholarship fund. The scholarship is available to all high school juniors and seniors who are highly involved in local community service.

The event will be held a week tomorrow, April 29, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Central Park, located at 909 Kiely Blvd. Registration costs $5 for children under 12 and $15 for everyone 13 and up. For more information, including online registration Forms, visit the event’s website.
