For many, Thanksgiving is the day that begins the holiday season, but in Santa Clara, the traditional meal - or at least one dish from it - has turned into a point of competition.
Cooking enthusiasts are pulling out their family recipes for the Stuffing Showdown. The competition pits different locally baked stuffings against each other. Only pan-baked stuffing will be allowed, meaning no turkey stuffing will be admitted. Additionally, this is a competition for local amateur cooks, so no professional chefs will be permitted to compete.
Interested participants must create an eight-by-eight pan of stuffing and include an ingredients list and recipe. The stuffings will be sampled by a local panel of judges. The winner will receive a prize and be declared the best in Santa Clara.
For residents who are not interested in adding ‘Best Stuffing Maker’ to their custom Business Cards, an open tasting will also be held after the competition. Anyone who shows up can sample any or all of the stuffings on hand free of charge while supplies last. As all dishes are created by home cooks, a waiver must be signed before sampling the goods.
The Stuffing Showdown will be held on November 21 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Northside Library, located at 695 Moreland Way. Admission and participation in the competition is free, but participants in the showdown must pre-register. Anyone interested in more info should visit the website.
