Race starts a 'fire' for education

The Santa Clara Firefighters Foundation is hosting a trio of races that will benefit the Santa Clara Schools Foundation.

The Firehouse Run for Education features a 5K and a 10K. The races are chip-timed and feature a flat, fast course that goes in a loop. Participants in the 10K will run around the course twice. Kids under age 12 can participate in the free Junior Firefighter’s Race.

Banners with bold fonts are often used at races to designate the start and finish lines.

Before the race, coffee will be provided. Afterwards, there will be more coffee, a pancake breakfast, and an expo. Awards will be given to the top finishers in each age group.

The 10K registration costs $40 for adults and $20 for kids. The 5K registration costs $30 for adults and $20 for kids. Registration includes a goody bag. In addition, the first 1,000 participants will receive a shirt.

Packet pickup will take place on October 31 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm at Sports Basement, located on 1177 Kern Avenue in Sunnydale.

The run itself will take place on November 1 at 8:00 am. The race starts on El Camino Real and ends at Buck Shaw Field at Stevens Stadium. The Junior Firefighter’s Race will take place after the end of the other races.

Participants can park at specified lots at Santa Clara University.
