Residents in San Jose, and nearby Santa Clara, can take part in a unique night race later this month.
The Firefly Run is a 5K nighttime run or walk in which participants wear illuminated arm bands and costumes. The event will benefit ‘Shared Adventures’, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities.
After the race, there will be a costume contest, entertainment, and refreshments. The post-race event will also have lighted decorations, including lasers and illuminated arches.
No doubt postcard printing was used to get the word out about the ‘Firefly Run’. Direct mailers could be sent out to the community.
Depending on the time of registration, the run costs between $25 and $55. Registration includes a t-shirt, reflective light bands, a race bib, and a surprise. To be chip timed, participants should add an additional $5. Registration for kids is $2.50 and includes a race bib and a glow item.
Pre-race packet pickup will take place on July 23 and July 24 from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm at Athletic Performance, located on 1115 Lincoln Avenue.
The Firefly Run will start on July 25 at 7:00 pm. Race day registration and packet pickup will begin at 5:30 pm, and the costume contest will start at 9:00 pm.
The event will be held at the San Jose Spartan Stadium, located on 1251 South 10th Street.
