San Rafael to host environmental event

San Rafael is planning an outdoor experience in late September.

Coastal Cleanup Day is an activity aiming to improve the natural environment in several locations around each city. The event takes place across the world, with each being put together by the Ocean Conservancy. The activity sees volunteers from the local community come together and pick up litter to help protect the ocean and local wildlife.

People are able to walk along the shore or go out on the water using a canoe or kayak while assisting in the cleanup. Those wishing to help can show up as an individual, with their friends, families, schools, or coworkers. Anyone looking to tick off some community service time can use the event towards that as well. Those who are below the age of 18 will need to get their guardian’s signature in order to participate. Anybody with a need for accommodation who wishes to volunteer will need to contact event organizers no less than four days prior to the cleanup. Attending is totally free.

There are four locations in the San Rafael edition of the event. These include the Shoreline Paths near the Target store parking lot and Pickleweed Park, San Rafael Canal (meeting point is around 101 Sports), and Mahon Creek. Signage with the Logo Design of the event is commonly put up for community enrichment activities. Cleaning will take place at three of the locations from 10:00am to 12:00pm, with the canal starting at 9:00am and also ending at 12:00pm. The international effort, including this local edition, will take place September 23rd.
