Officials from Marin County are implementing a $660,000 project to help senior citizens get food from restaurants.
The board gave its approval for funds to be used on this pilot program. Most of the money will go to local restaurants in Marin County cities such as San Rafael so that they can make special meals and deliver them to mature citizens who are staying at home. Deliveries can feature the restaurant’s Logo Design on the Boxes.
This program was initially scheduled to run until this Friday, May 29, but it may be extended until June 10. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is expected to foot most of the bill.
Several small communities in the county decided not to be a part of the program, expressing concerns that they will not be reimbursed if they do not follow the program’s strict guidelines.
In order to qualify to receive food through this program, the applicants must be at least 65 years old, or at least 60 if they are considered to be a high-risk case. Three meals will be provided for five days a week to 1,000 people who qualify. The restaurants that participate will get $17 for each breakfast, $18 for every lunch, and $31 for each dinner.
Many restaurants have had to reduce their working capacity to cope with the pandemic. People may not be able to eat in, but takeout orders have been a good source of income for them in the meantime.
