Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner CBE, aka Sting, first rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the British band The Police. He has had equal success as a solo artist, and between his career with The Police and his solo years, has sold over 100 million records worldwide.
In London in 1977, Sting met and teamed up with Henry Padovani and Steward Copeland to form The Police, a new-wave band. The group was relatively short-lived, having been most popular from the latter part of 1970s to the early 1980s, but their impact on the industry was enormous. Their reggae and punk influenced sounds, along with a penchant for philosophical subject material, resulted in a flood of hits including “Every Breath You Take,” “Don’t Stand So Close to Me,” and “Message in a Bottle.”
Throughout his career, Sting has won 17 Grammy Awards, 25 American Music Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and earned a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has also been nominated for four Oscars in the “Best Original Song Category.”
A review says:
“So the concert was everything you would expect, in terms of great showmanship, fantastic musicians, great musical arrangements, and great voices.”
Sting will be at the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at SDSU on October 4. Promoters of this type of event can use poster printing to create suitable advertising.
