Sir Elton John is a composer, singer, pianist, and all-around entertainer who has been delighting audiences for decades.
Elton John began playing the piano when he was three, and at age 11, won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music. He got a job as a pianist in a pub, where he worked until he met Bernie Taupin in 1967.
With Elton providing the music to lyrics set by Taupin, Elton began recording. His first album was not successful but the second, 1970’s “Elton John,” was No. 5 in the UK and No. 4 in the US, marking a huge leap in popularity and the start of a climb toward superstardom.
In 1972, Elton released “Honky Chateau,” the first of his albums to reach No. 1 in the US (No. 2 in the UK). The following five albums all reached No. 1 on the US Billboard chart. Among the six was “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” which remained in the top spot for two months. Elton John has sold over 300 million albums in his career, marking him as one of the most successful artists in music. A review says:
