Two reggae artists will be in San Diego soon, bringing their own take on the islands to San Diego.
Michael Rose, who goes by Mykel, is a Jamaican reggae artist who has been performing his version of the island’s music for more than 25 years. He has had great success, both with a band and as a solo artist. One of the major high points in his career was in 1984, when he was a member of Black Uhuru. The group won a Grammy for their album “Anthem,” the first Grammy going to a reggae group. Before he was invited to join Black Uhuru, he had already released several singles on his own, including the original “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.”
Since going solo, Mykel has toured Europe and the United States regularly as a modern roots artist, while maintaining his fan base in Jamaica.
Sharing the stage with Mykel is Big Mountain, a Cali Roots reggae group who have had international success with their version of “Baby, I Love Your Way,” a Peter Frampton hit. The group first charted in 1992 with “Touch My Light,” and followed that with Frampton’s hit, which is played over 10,000 times daily at stores, radio, and satellite radio. They tour worldwide and appeared as the headliner at Jamaica’s Reggae Sunsplash Festival.
Mykel Rose and Big Mountain will be at the Music Box on August 29. When they plan concerts like this, organizers may use poster printing methods to create advertising for them.
