Harry Connick Jr. is a native of New Orleans, where he was playing piano by the time he was three, and performing at the age of five. When he was 10, he had made a record with a jazz band, setting the course of his career. He studied at the New Orleans Centre for the Creative Arts under James Booker and Ellis Marsalis, the father of two other celebrated musicians, Wynton and Bradford Marsalis. He went on to the Manhattan School of Music in New York, and Hunter College.
Connick’s breakthrough came when he wrote the soundtrack for the hit movie “When Harry Met Sally.” The album went double platinum and gave him the opportunity to break into acting with a role in “Memphis Belle” and appear in the blockbuster “Independence Day,” as well as making numerous television appearances. He has released 21 vocal albums, and has total album sales in the United States of more than 15 million Copies.
