Darius Rucker enjoyed a successful career as the frontman of the rock band Hootie & the Blowfish, as well as forging a solo path that has been equally rewarding. He, Dean Felber, Jim “Soni” Sonefeld, and Mark Bryan formed the Blowfish at the University of South Carolina in 1986. He was the rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist of the outfit.
Hootie & the Blowfish released five studio albums during the time Rucker was with them, and had six Top 40 hits chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Most of the songs released by this band were co-written by Rucker.
Rucker began to attract attention on his own, and the legendary Frank Sinatra asked him to sing at his birthday party when Sinatra turned 80. He soon had a solo career launched, although he notes that he is still friends with his old bandmates, and in fact they released an album as recently as 2019 titled “Imperfect Circle.”
A review of Rucker’s solo work says:
“Whether as the frontman for Hootie and the Blowfish or solo as a county artist, Rucker continues to be innovative and catchy. Here’s to many more years of his music.”
Rucker will be at Petco Park on August 25. At a venue of this size, organizers could use banner printing to create publicity for the event.
