According to an article in the San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diegans will soon have the opportunity to go on a scavenger hunt—for cash.
These hunts began in 2014, both in California and elsewhere, and were started by an anonymous person who undertook what was described as a ‘social experiment for good’. The experiment was simply hiding amounts of cash in various places, and then publishing clues to the location.
The Los Angeles times found out that the person who started the first hunt was a real estate developer who had made a six-figure profit on a deal, and decided to give back to his community and have some fun with the money. The hunt he started spawned others, and in 2014, there were five simultaneous hunts running in San Diego. This upcoming one will be for $500.
Members of the group hiding the cash say they work for tech companies and Hollywood studios. One of them said he wasn’t rich, but figured he could spare something to “make someone’s day with some random acts of kindness.”
The group says the first bundle of cash is in Balboa Park, where it can be found this Saturday, September 24. Organizers of events like these can benefit by working with flyer printing companies, which can create detailed materials and information sheets.
