The Sweet and Tender Hooligans are on their Shake Before Us tour, which pays tribute to the British indie band the Smiths, and their frontman, Morrissey. The Smiths first got together in 1982 in Manchester. Critics have called the band one of the most important of those that came from the independent music scene in Britain in the 1980s.
The Sweet and Tender Hooligans are based in Los Angeles, and formed in 1992, with Jose Maldonado as their frontman. They have replicated the Smiths' work so exactly that Morrissey himself has opened his performances with the Hooligans' line, “Hello, we are the Sweet and Tender Hooligans.” The Hooligans' performances are exact replicas of the Smiths' appearances, including the fact that Maldonado has styled his hair the same way as Morrissey. The LA Weekly named the Hooligans the “Best Cover Band in Los Angeles.”
