San Diego's Diversionary Theatre is getting ready for its third annual dance program.
The show was once entitled the Dance/Threatre program, but in 2013, it was renamed ‘Hot Guys Dancing’. The show went on to enjoy a surge in popularity, with people being turned away from the box office at every performance.
Michael Mizerany, who conceived the revamped show and is directing it, notes it takes more than a provocative name to bring in the audiences, however. He believes that what has led to the increase in ticket sales is how good the work is, and the fact that the theater constantly brings in new dances, dancers, and choreographers.
The 2015 show features six choreographers, five of whom have never worked with Hot Guys Dancing before. Together, they will present seven dances, starring 12 male performers. The program is designed for mature audiences.
‘Hot Guys Dancing’ will be performed at the Diversionary Theatre at 4545 Park Boulevard, in San Diego's University Heights neighborhood. Performances are at 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 8; 8:00 pm Friday and Saturday, January 9 and 10; and 2 pm on Sunday, January 11. Performances run approximately one hour.
Theater management could work with brochure printers to create a program about the performers, choreographers, and the dances themselves to ensure that large turnouts continue to be forthcoming.
