San Diegans will have an opportunity to get to know the Founding Fathers by attending ‘Hamilton’, the Tony-winning musical, during its limited engagement in the sunny city. The show is now running at the San Diego Civic Theatre.
The play tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, who is considered one of the nation's Founding Fathers. Hamilton was an immigrant who came to the young country from the West Indies, and, during the Revolutionary War, became the right-hand man to General George Washington, who went on to become the first President. Hamilton served under President Washington as the first Secretary of the Treasury.
Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the show, which premiered in 2015 and took Broadway by storm. It is been a huge success at the box office, as well as winning eleven Tonys—including the award for Best Musical—along with a Pulitzer Prize and a Grammy. The score is a blend of showtunes, rhythm and blues, rap, blues, jazz, and hip-hop.
Nicholas Christopher and Austin Scott are in the San Diego production. Scott is playing Hamilton while Christopher is Aaron Burr. Scott was on Broadway as John in the revival of ‘Miss Saigon’. In Hamilton on Broadway, he was cast as Washington.
The show runs through January 28. Events like this can be even more fun if managers work with a poster printing company to create colorful placards advertising the show, which can later be sold.
