The upcoming Bowling for Rhinos is a fundraising event to help rhino conservation efforts in Indonesia and Kenya.
All of the funds raised go directly to conservation work in these countries, where experts are working to save four species of rhinos and their habitats. The monies also go to help save hundreds of other species of animals and plants, as well as cheetahs, in Kenya.
The bowling fundraiser is a nationwide event organized by the American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) through its local chapters. The event consists of fundraising through contests, a bake sale, a silent auction, drawings, individual sponsorships, and, of course, bowling.
The AAZK started the Bowling for Rhinos effort when the organization realized that zoo keepers in countries the world over were dedicated to conservation, but often lacked the finances to make an impact individually. However, a national event could make a difference, and Bowling for Rhinos was born. The money raised goes to the individuals who are working directly with the rhinos and other endangered species, in the countries where they live.
The San Diego Bowling for Rhinos is set for this Saturday, May 19, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm, at the Kearny Mesa Bowl on Clairemont Boulevard.
