A much cherished trio of vocalists is coming to San Diego for one performance only.
Il Volo is on “The Best of Ten Years Tour,” and will be sharing their artistry with San Diego fans at a performance at Copley Symphony Hall. Il Volo is a trio of young Italian vocalists who say that they sing “popera.” Although tenor Piero Barone, baritone Gianluca Ginoble, and tenor Ignazio Boschetto have operatic-quality voices, they have instead chosen to concentrate on popular songs, such as “O Sole Mio.” They also combine classical and popular music, mirroring a favorite technique in Italy.
The trio met in 2009, when all three were competing on an Italian singing contest, “Ti lascio una canzone,” broadcast by Rai 1. At the time, they were singing as soloists, but the show’s creator, Roberto Cenci, decided to put the three together, creating a group similar to The Three Tenors (Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras, and Plácido Domingo). Since they began their career, they have won numerous awards, and enjoyed a number of successful tours.
A review of an Il Volo performance said the trio
“. . . packed their 90-minute performance with breath taking technique and a school boy excitement that kept both the Italian and English speakers in the audience laughing.”
Il Volo will be in San Diego on March 3, at 7:30 pm in Copley Symphony Hall. Poster printing is often used successfully to advertise this type of event.
