Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan will appear at the San Diego Civic Theatre on Third Avenue. McLachlan's career extends well beyond performing to philanthropy and activism. She has been nominated for the Grammy® Award 14 times, and won three, and has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. She can be heard on the soundtracks for the films “The Brothers McMullen” and “Toy Story 2.”
In addition, she founded the Sarah McLachlan School of Music, which is located in Vancouver, Canada, with additional sites in Edmonton and Surrey. There is no fee or tuition for students to attend the school, which seeks to provide musical education to undeserved and at-risk populations. The school offers a variety of programs for people from ages zero through five, elementary school age students, high school age, and adults 55 and over.
A review of a recent concert said her voice remains almost unchanged after 20 years of performing, and that the evening was even more interesting because she discussed the inspiration for her songs, and the process of creating them. The reviewer said that at the concert, McLachlan:
“had no backing band, no special tricks—it was just her and her music, and it was utterly riveting.”
