“Dancing with the Stars” is based on “Strictly Come Dancing,” which premiered on British TV in 2004. The American version debuted the next year, and has remained a staple ever since.
The premise is simple – stars from many fields including film, television, sports, and even science compete against one another in a series of elimination rounds. They are paired with professional dancers who help create the routines. Judges score the dancers and viewers call in to support their favorite couple. The combined scores determine the winner and the last place contestant, who is eliminated.
The touring show has a great deal in common with its counterpart on television, though it takes place in one evening rather than over a period of weeks. However, fans will see some of the most popular dances from the program performed by celebrity guests who have also been on television. The biggest difference, of course, is that fans get to watch the event live. Organizers of this type of event can use brochure printing to create programs for audiences.
