The holidays bring many special events to San Diego, including a festival of jazz music and swing.
Jazz musicians and bands from throughout the United States will come to San Diego to take part in the 40th San Diego Jazz Fest. They will play music in many different styles, including rockabilly, gospel, dixieland, ragtime, boogie-woogie, swing, and traditional. Poster printing is often used when events like this are scheduled.
The festival will be opened by Deejah Mari AND High Society, based in San Diego, along with Sue Palmer and her Motel Swing Orchestra, also from San Diego, who perform jump music, swing, and the blues. The festival runs for several days, giving fans of jazz music many opportunities to enjoy their favorite artform.
A Swing Extravaganza is planned for the Saturday evening, featuring two great bands. Also appearing during the week are the Big Butter Jazz Band; the Dave Bennett Quartet; vocalist Katie Cavera, who also plays the bass, guitar, and banjo; the Mission Bay High School Preservationists, and more.
Joel Ply's Hang 10 Hoppers will present dance demos, and Canadian and U.S. musicians will present a “pianorama.” The fun winds up on Sunday morning with gospel music provided by Claremont's Night Blooming Jazzmen.
The festival opens November 27 and continues through December 1. The venue is the Town & Country Resort and Hotel, located in Hotel Circle in Mission Valley. Daily hours and ticket prices can be found on the event website.
