The members of Air Supply met when they were performing in Melbourne in “Jesus Christ Superstar.” They remained committed to the show but decided to form a band at the same time, with Russell Hitchcock as lead vocalist, and guitarist/songwriter Graham Russell providing the material. Their first single, “Love and Other Bruises,” hit No. 6 when it was released, and their first album, “Air Supply,” which they dropped in 1976, climbed into the Top 20 in Australia.
The began to win recognition in the United States in 1980, when they released “Lost in Love.” The album went to the No. 22 position on Billboard, eventually achieving Double Platinum status. They followed that up with “The One That You Love,” which made it to No. 10 in both Australia and the United States. Their biggest success thus far is their “Greatest Hits” package, which made it to No. 1 in Australia and No. 7 in the United States, as well as being certified 5X Platinum.
