The San Diego Chargers held their annual fan appreciation day, the Fanfest, at Qualcomm Stadium earlier this month.
The event took place on August 8, and gave fans of the team an opportunity to watch the players practice, and meet some of their favorite team members.
The mood at the stadium was as festive as it is at any NFL game, with fans trying to get a look of Phillip Rivers, the Chargers' quarterback, while also enjoying cheerleaders and a chance to get autographs.
Although Fanfest is a yearly event that generates lots of excitement, the celebration this year was marked by a somewhat subdued air, given the fact the Chargers may be moving to Los Angeles. San Diego officials are working on a plan for a new stadium in order to keep the team in the city.
Fans said they would continue to support the team even if they make the move to the City of Angels. Players, too, expressed their appreciation for the fans' loyalty. Eric Weddle, a favorite of the fans, said he played because hearing the chanting and cheering of the fans is very special.
Other players who were on hand to greet fans personally were retired players Lorenzo Neal and Nick Hardwick.
Team management could work with a banner printing company on a festive banner to display next year, honoring the fans.
