A musical group that has been a mainstay of contemporary classical music for decades is coming to San Diego.
The Kronos Quartet will be appearing in a multimedia performance project, “KRONOS: Five Decades,” created by Joe Bini, a film editor who won an Oscar nomination for “Encounters at the End of the World,” and Sam Green, a director who also got an Oscar nod for his documentary “The Weather Underground.”
At the upcoming concert, Green will be onstage with the Kronos Quartet as they perform live before images of archival footage, narration, and filmed interviews with artists like Philip Glass, all compiled by Bini and Green. Green will narrate the history of the group and their groundbreaking career while they perform some of the works from their catalog, including pieces by John Zorn, Laurie Anderson, and others.
The original members of the Kronos Quartet were cellist Joan Jeanrenaud, violist Hank Dutt, violinist John Sherba, and the founder of the group, violinist David Harrington. He formed the group in 1973 in Seattle. They played mostly in informal settings, which made their music accessible to audiences.
The Kronos Quartet will be at the Conrad Prebys Concert Hall on the campus of the University of California San Diego on March 8. Organizers of events like this will often opt to work with professional printers, who use brochure printing to create informative programs for the audience.
