A California-based blues singer will be in San Diego to share his talent with fans.
Earl Thomas is not only a vocalist, but he is also a songwriter, whose material has been covered by stars like Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Solomon Burke, Etta James, and Tom Jones. He has twice won the San Diego Music Award and has four Grammy nominations to his credit.
Although he was born in Tennessee, Thomas attended Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. He started his career in the 1980s, playing the clubs in Arcata while he was still in school. He began his career in Arcata at an open mic night when he sang “Something Fine” by Jackson Browne.
He moved to San Diego in the 1990s and dropped his “Blue . . . Not Blues” album in 1991. The album got good reviews, with one reviewer calling it a “pleasant surprise.” Etta James had a hit with her version of Thomas’s song “I Sing the Blues.”
He has performed in venues and festival around the world, including the 2008 Russian River Blues Festival, held in Sonoma County in California; and the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival, held in 2016 in Lancashire, England.
