Pleasant Hill to offer lactation training workshop

Direct care providers in Pleasant Hill can attend a course in March on proper infant feeding practices.

Lactation Training for Physicians Practicing in Contra Costa County is a program organized by the Contra Costa Breastfeeding Task Force. The workshop is intended to help physicians educate their clients on the benefits of breastfeeding and teach them how to breastfeed correctly. Participants in the class will learn about alternative lactation aids, hand expressions, and Signs of good attachment. The instructor of the workshop is Dr. Sara Forouhar, a board-certified pediatrician and lactation consultant who works at the Contra Costa Medical Center.

The Contra Costa Breastfeeding Task Force is an organization wishing to improve breastfeeding initiation and duration rates by sharing resources with the community. The group hosts bi-monthly Zoom meetings and has a call center people can contact for free breastfeeding support. The newsletter published by the task force covers several topics, including mental health and how to feed infants during emergencies.

The lactation workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 14 from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm. There is no cost to join Dr. Forouhar’s presentation, though participants should register for the class in advance since there will be limited seating. Organizations that offer helpful workshops such as this may use poster printing to share their courses at public locations like recreation centers or clinics.
