Pleasant Hill to host webinar about bees

Pleasant Hill locals interested in discovering more facts about bees can watch a virtual program in March hosted by the Contra Costa County Library.

Uncle Jer's Traveling Bee Show is an activity that is part of the library's Nature Exploration Series. During the broadcast, Uncle Jer and his co-presenter Ms. Ellen will cover several bee-related topics, including how the insects make honey and pollinate flowers. The program features a bee puppet and appearances from live bees. Viewers will also learn about staying safe around bees. The show is close-captioned and is appropriate for children aged six to nine.

Real name Jerry Johnson, Uncle Jer is a graduate of Sacramento State College who grew up working with bees on his parents' farm. Before becoming a presenter, Johnson owned a cookie company known as Uncle Jer's Cookies. He offers bee rescuing services in Sacramento and the San Joaquin Valley. Schools can book his bee-themed presentation for classrooms and assemblies. Educators such as Johnson may use business card printing to exchange information with potential customers.

Uncle Jer's Traveling Bee Show will be held on Wednesday, March 16 from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm. Those who wish to watch the program live can register for a Zoom link. The presentation will also be available on the library's YouTube account and Facebook page for up to one week after it airs.
