Monterey enjoys long-running Scottish event

The Monterey Scottish Games & Celtic Festival returns this year to celebrate 52 years, bringing back the games and culture that Monterey continues to enjoy. This event will feature dancing, games, athletics, music, and more.

Highland dancing will be performed competitively at various levels. Dances will include the Sword Dance and Highland Fling, among others, and competitors will range in age from seven, to sixteen and over.

There will also be musicians performing, primarily drummers and bagpipers. Performances and competitions will be staged through both days of the event. A number of vendors will also be in attendance, selling wares including candies, food, artwork, and more.

Athletics will also be a part of the festival, with traditional games and competitions going on throughout the event. Participants will be judged in events such as caber toss, open stone putt, heavy hammer, and others. Other activities will be taking place throughout the weekend, including kids’ games and whisky tastings.

This type of event often uses printing services to have maps ready for visitors, usually including helpful information such as vendor locations. The festival will be held at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, where there is parking available.

Tickets are currently on sale for $15 per adult per day, $12 per child, senior, or military member per day, or $20 per adult for both days or $15 for children, seniors, and military two-day. Gates will open at 9:00 am on both Saturday and Sunday, August 3 and 4.
