Officials from the California High Speed Rail Authority recently announced that that the plans for the planned California bullet train in the Burbank to Palmdale area have been revised. Those living in Lancaster might benefit from this nearby route.
The corridor between Burbank and Palmdale is geographically complex and has some areas that are densely populated. One new proposal, known as SR14 as it follows the same state route number, will travel underground until less populated areas are reached. The other proposals involve tunneling over long distance through mountainous sections of the Angeles National Forest. There are some environmentalists and members of the community who are concerned that these routes could harm wildlife and contaminate groundwater.
The project is expected to cost $64bn, but budget issues and lawsuits have delayed commencing the project. Some are looking to put an initiative on the ballot in November to remove appropriations for the train and use the money towards building water infrastructure.
However, officials are now proceeding with an environmental review process for the three route options between Burbank and Palmdale. The California High Speed Rail Authority reviewed these proposals earlier in the month and is now encouraging public comments on the route options.
The Authority might consider turning to a booklet printing company to Print materials with more information about these routes and the project for the public to review.
