The Prohousing Designation recognizes cities and counties that surpass state requirements through progressive policies that reduce obstacles, accelerate approvals, enable access to land and funding, and encourage varied housing types, all balanced with strong commitments to affordability, fairness, and sustainability.
This designation was earned by the city as it streamlined approvals for innovative housing types and unlocked land owned by the city mobilizing City-owned land for affordable housing development, thereby helping to reduce delays and lower costs for housing projects. Among the ongoing efforts of the city towards these goals are programs such as Housing Rehabilitation and the upcoming assistance programs for accessory dwelling units which are designed to make the development of housing more accessible and efficient for residents.
Mayor R. Rex Parris said that this designation reflects the long standing commitment of Lancaster to housing solutions that are practical and driven by results. He added that the city is focused on providing more homes and more quickly while ensuring they are sustainable, safe, and affordable for all those who consider Lancaster to be their homes.
