Lancaster awarded grant and recognized for cleanup efforts

The state of California has designated the city of Lancaster as a Clean California Community.

Through the Clean California Community Cleanup and Employment Pathway (CCEP) Program the city has been given a grant of $172,205 to grow the TeamUp Lancaster initiative. This is a program that focuses on workforce development, civic engagement, and community beautification.

The Public Works Maintenance Services Division of the city leads TeamUp Lancaster. This program uses a model driven by the community that mobilizes local organizations, students, and residents to improve the community through education and environmental service. Since it was rebranded three years ago, it has coordinated the adoption of more than nine miles of roadway, hosted seven large scale cleanup events, and removed over 100 tons of debris across the city.

The grant that was awarded will enable the expansion by reinforcing longer-term community stewardship, enhancing opportunities for workforce development, and increasing participation. To create safer, cleaner, and more vibrant public spaces, the program aims to integrate the abatement of graffiti, anti-graffiti art, youth engagement, and litter cleanup.

The grant will also enable the city to partner with more local non-profit organizations, businesses, schools, and community groups to promote environmental education and garner more volunteers.
